My abdomen has recovered remarkably well since the surgery.
In my daily life I still pay attention to what I eat at home and what I buy at the supermarket.
But when it comes to eating out, or having a drink with a meal, I’ve gradually been able to enjoy them again with much more freedom.
Of course, I still avoid overeating.
Sometimes a quiet signal appears.
“If I eat any more, I might not feel well later today—or tomorrow.”
That sense is still there.
Even so, I’m grateful that I no longer feel the pressure of thinking,
“I absolutely can’t eat this.”
This sense of ease has saved me.
It isn’t that I must not eat.
I can eat.
Or I don’t have to.
Having that choice again means more than I realized.
Come to think of it, that was how life was supposed to be all along.
Even the ordinary feels like something to be grateful for.
There is perhaps one small downside…
I seem to have gained a little weight.
